It’s no secret that using the best Hinge prompts is extremely important. But that’s only half the battle. Using Hinge prompts properly will have a tremendous impact on your results. In this article, we are going to take a look at the Two Truths & A Lie Hinge Prompt, along with an advanced strategy that I often implement for my clients.

Why Does the Two Truths and a Lie Hinge Prompt Work So Well

There are many reasons why the two truths and a lie Hinge Prompt works so well and why it is one of my favorite prompts to use for clients. Let’s take a look at a few of the benefits:

  • Conversation bait: It creates an intriguing setup that entices others to learn more about you. The more challenging, creative, and interesting you make these, the more effective they will be.
  • Lifestyle snapshot: You can showcase various aspects of your life, all in one prompt – adventure, unique events from your life, accomplishments, etc. The more diverse each response is, the more you will be able to spark attraction in a multitude of ways.
  • Intrigue factor: When done right, it leaves your reader thinking “Wait… I need to know more.”
  • They’re fun: On the most fundamental level, people like to play games and want to “win” when they guess correct. This creates a fun set up from the jump off.

Intrigue & Creativity Is Key If You Use The Two Truths and a Lie Hinge Prompt

Let’s be real: nobody cares if your favorite color is blue or if you don’t actually like chicken. Those types of truths and lies are not going to inspire someone to message you, let alone start a meaningful connection.

When using this Hinge prompt, every statement should serve to tell a great story about you. Think of them as mini marketing hooks. Each one is a golden opportunity to:

  • Reveal something exciting about your lifestyle
  • Hint at a unique hobby or interest
  • Create a WTF, tell me more! moment

For example:

Bad: “I’ve been to Italy, I like sushi, I’m not really a Capricorn.”

Good: “I once swam with sharks in The Great Barrier, I trained for a half-marathon in Japan, I’m a yoga instructor.”

The former is boring and marks you as someone who has nothing interesting going on in your life, whereas the second example is a creative & intriguing Hinge Prompt that really helps you to ignite conversation.

Advanced Strategy Time: Make Your Lie Almost Identical to Your Truth

Here’s where we can take things to the next level and get the most mileage out of our prompt. Most people use the lie as a throwaway line or something that’s obviously fake. But here’s the better strategy: make the lie closely resemble a real story about yourself.

Let’s say I actually went skydiving in Thailand. Instead of using that as one of my truths, I’d tweak it slightly and write my lie as: “I once went skydiving in Kenya.”

Why? Because if someone guesses that as the lie, it sets me up to naturally share the real story about Thailand:

“Haha, yep — that one’s the lie… but I did go skydiving in Thailand!!”

This approach accomplishes two things:

It adds surprise and depth to the conversation — instead of just saying “nope, that’s fake,” you immediately reveal something exciting about yourself.

It makes the lie work harder — instead of being a throwaway, it becomes a smooth transition into a real story that’s still impressive and engaging. You’re getting more mileage out of the prompt by turning the lie into a lead-in for something almost identical that is real and compelling.

  • You’ve surprised them with a fun and intriguing story.
  • You’ve gotten more mileage out of the prompt by turning the lie into a lead-in for something almost identical that is real and compelling.

Final Thoughts

The Two Truths and a Lie Hinge prompt is often underestimated, but when used right, it’s one of the best conversation-driving Hinge prompts available. Instead of defaulting to generic or forgettable answers, make each statement count—and don’t be afraid to use strategy.

With the advanced tactic of building your lie around a close-to-true version of your life, you’re not just playing the game—you’re owning it.
